Where Your Bathroom Budget Matters Most : A Feature in The Telegraph

When renovating a bathroom, it is easy for the budget to disappear into the details. But not every detail deserves the same investment.

For us, brassware is one of those areas where quality really matters.

“Cheap brassware also quickly loses its finish, begins to drip or suffers from stiff, unresponsive taps,” Marcelina explains. Instead, we recommend investing in taps, valves and fixtures that are going to be used every day and expected to last.

We also love materials that become more interesting with age. As Marcelina puts it, “I love opting for ‘living’ finishes like unlacquered brass, hand-brushed nickel or bronze which age beautifully.”

The other area where we think it is worth spending is storage.

Bathrooms are often some of the tightest spaces in a home, which makes every centimetre count. An off-the-shelf vanity might fill a gap, but it rarely makes the most of it.

“A bespoke vanity allows you to design around your exact storage needs, discreetly conceal ugly pipework and introduce beautifully tactile materials,” says Marcelina.

That is where good design earns its place. It is not about adding cost for the sake of it. It is about identifying the things that affect how a room works, feels and lasts, then putting the budget there.

A beautiful bathroom does not need to be the most expensive one in the room. It needs to be the most considered.
