The Art of Choosing the Right Sofa: Our Perspective in Livingetc
For us, a bathroom should never feel like an afterthought. It is one of the most private spaces in a home, but that does not mean it needs to be purely functional. Increasingly, we’re designing bathrooms to feel more like rooms in their own right, with the same attention to architecture, atmosphere and detail that we would bring to a living space.
The Red feature explores this idea through a series of bathrooms designed around comfort, character and a sense of escape. Our own project is included in the magazine’s “Anatomy of a Room” section, where the focus is on making the most of an unexpected bathroom setting and its relationship with the surrounding views.
Designing with the view in mind
One of the things we particularly enjoyed about this feature is its emphasis on looking beyond the obvious when designing a bathroom.
A bathroom with a view can become a surprisingly atmospheric space. Rather than treating the windows, architectural features or surrounding landscape as secondary considerations, we can use them to shape the entire experience of the room.
That might mean positioning a bath or shower to make the most of a garden, introducing a skylight to bring natural light deeper into the space, or simply paying closer attention to the proportions and architectural details that already exist.
Making the bathroom feel like part of the home
We’ve always believed that the best bathrooms feel connected to the wider character of a property.
That means moving beyond the standard bathroom formula and thinking about materials, lighting, artwork, joinery and hardware with the same level of consideration we would give to any other room.
The result is a bathroom that feels less like a functional space and more like somewhere you genuinely want to spend time.
We’re delighted to see this approach recognised in Red and to have one of our projects included alongside a wider conversation about creating bathrooms that feel restorative, personal and full of character.
